William Geep (known during his later life and to his decendants as William Gibb)

1823 - 1894

William Geep
Isabella Elizabeth Lye

William Gibb (christened William Geep) married Isabella Elizabeth Lye and had 9 children.  William was the son of Wiliam Geep (1788) and Ann.

It should be noted that up to about 1837 the Ecclesiastical Parish Records does not have the name Gibb in it but gives the Gibb name as Geep. When the Civil records stated the name it was pronounced by the individual as Geeb, Gibe, Gabe, Gibb, Gibbs depending on which Civil Parish you were in. The only place the Geep name appears is in Merriott Parish.

William was christened in 1825, along with two of his siblings, Robert (listed at 6) and Ann (estimated 4).  Based on the 1841 Census, it appears William was born in 1823.

The original Baptism records actual are as follows:

Bap. Date : 26 Dec 1825 William son of William and Ann Geep.

Baptised the same day were his brother Robert and sister Ann.

William Geep was married as William Gibb to Isabella Elizabeth Lye In South Petherton, in 1847. The name change occurred when he left Merriott.

Isabella had one child (Robert Henry Lye - 1844) before they were married.  The child died at the age of 6 months.  Some have speculated that William was the father but that has not be verified

After they were married, their first two children (John Lye Gibb - 1848, Robert Henry Gabe - 1850),  were christened in South Petherton.  Their next two children (Thomas Gibb - 1853, Edwin Gibbs - 1855) were christened in Worle.  Their next child (Ada Ann Gibb - 1857) was christened in Ash. Lucy Emma Gibb (1858) and Henry James Gibbs (1860) were christened in Martock.  Henry James died in Newport, Wales at the age of 10.

No death records for William have been found.
